I’ve finished the illustrations for the picture book After a While Crocodile, by Jennifer Keats Curtis and Brady Barr. It is a fictionalized account of a real program in Costa Rica, where schoolchildren raise endangered American Crocodiles from hatchlings until they’re old enough to be safely released. This assignment was challenging because I had to design each spread to use Brady Barr’s beautiful photographs and also fill in with appropriate illustrations. I used a somewhat loose pencil and watercolor technique on Arches paper, because it seemed like a style that would work best with the photos. It will be published by Arbordale in the fall.
